[As much as he wanted to see his dad again, he had no illusions that it was ever actually going to happen. Not until he finally got his hands on the ring and found a suitable time and place to somehow summon that version of his father.]
... Your sweetness is showing.
[This come back. But he points out the way to the center of the library, where his dear friend is waiting for them. He hands over the plate, and like always, the spirit waste absolutely no time devouring all of it.
Noctis, shockingly, wants to hang around for a bit after that. He even helps straighten some of the books that have been messed up. Definitely not doing anything to diminish his sweetness quota.]
I was looking forward to seeing my mother again. I had a lot of things I wanted to tell her.
[ But, alas, it's just not meant to be. ]
Ooo, very nice comeback.
[ Sarcasm: it's what's for dinner. But she's amused and it's... it's something to see this particular spirit. Somehow, she's not surprised Noctis has made friends with him.
[Noctis stays for a while. Much longer than it would ever be expected for him to want to stay in a place filled with nothing but books. Most of it is spent talking with the librarian - okay, he's talking, and the librarian is doing wild hand gestures and writing him replies back.
But when he finally goes to leave, he promises to be back the next day with more food. The way to a forest spirits heart is, apparently, through their stomach.
When they're done he'll wave goodbye and hold the door open for Luna again.]
[ Luna just remains quiet for the most part, observing. Because that's what she does, and she's not entirely sure about this spirit. She's a little weary, just like she is about most of the spirits here.
Not to mention she's enjoying watching Noctis having fun. In the big scheme of things, that's what really matters to her.
But she'll quietly thank him again when he opens the door on their way out, at least. ]
[Noctis didn't exactly have many either. At least, it hadn't started out that way.
At first, there had only been Ignis. They had both been ridiculously young and lonely and had clung to each other because they were all each other had. Then there was Gladio, this giant of a person even when they had been young. That same connection had never been formed. Not quite as fully. But the bond was still there. Just different.
And finally there had been Luna. A chance meeting. Fate bringing them together. Always there/ But always out of reach. He had tried to be the best friend that he could to her. Knew that she was probably lonely. And afraid. And he had always wanted to ease that.
Thank the gods (or Luna. He really should be thanking Luna) for bringing him Prompto. The first and only person who had ever been his friend simply because of who he was underneath it all.
He reaches for her hand then. Slips his fingers between hers and squeezes. Like he would have when they were kids.]
I know it's not the same but... this place still needs your light, Luna.
[ Luna recalls that very easily. She can relate; she'd had Ravus to begin with, and he'd been more of a protective older brother than a friend. Someone to annoy and harass as little sisters tend to do.
After everything happened, she was allowed to remain in a private school, but the other girls tended to avoid her and for good reason, not that she could ever blame them. She couldn't ever forge the same bonds that they did, and she'd just come to accept that as part of her role in the big scheme of things.
As an adult, she realized that much was true; even if she'd forged a bunch of friendships, it wouldn't matter in the end because she'd never have the time to see any of them or to do much with it. Not to mention everyone would end up disappointed simply because she was not meant to live past twenty four.
Which is why she will forever be grateful for the friendship that Noctis gave to her, is still giving to her. She smiles at him and gently squeezes his hand in return, because she knows that he can relate in a sense. Being royalty sounds like it's all fun and games, but it makes it extremely hard to pick out who is genuine and who isn't. ]
You are sweet, Noctis. Thank you. This place needs yours, too... more than ever.
Maybe it was supposed to be. Maybe he was supposed to have brought the dawn back to their own world. Be the brightest light of them all. But not here. Not now.
His footsteps falter and he turns to look at her, keeps his fingers tightly interwoven within his own. And he passes it to her then. The connection to the Armiger. Feels it move through their touch and into her. All she has to do is accept it.]
[ She'd argue that, tell him that he's wrong about that. That his really is the brightest light out of them all, whether it be here or at home. But she doesn't get the chance because not only is it not verbalized, but there's a strange, warm feeling flowing between them.
He's given her access to the Armiger, and she certainly wishes that she could pass her powers to him as well. But she will just have to settle for promising to be there for him now and always. ]

[Well. He does now. The number has at least doubled since leaving home. And probably tripled since coming here.]

[ She knows how quiet he is, okay. ]

[Mostly by accident.]
It's kind of... easier here, actually. No one knows who I am.
[No one knows he's a prince, or a king. No one expects him to be a certain way.]

[ She thinks he does, at least. ]
That does help... it's easier that way sometimes. It means that friendships built are far more genuine.

[He would say the same about Gladio. Only he's pretty sure with Gladio it's at least half duty and pride.]
It is different though. Not having everyone treat you different just because your royalty.

[ She can't really relate to Noctis on the subject of friends. Not including the dogs or Gentiana, she's only really ever had one: him. ]
I can understand that, yes. I still feel strange without duties to tend to here.
